Generator Will Not Start
Dead battery is the most frequent cause. Standby generators have a 12V battery that charges during operation. If the generator has not run in months, the battery may have discharged. Fuel system issues and low oil safety shutdowns are the next most common causes.
Generator Starts Then Shuts Down
Low oil level triggers the safety shutdown. Oil consumption increases in heat — Arlington TX summers push generators hard. Also caused by overloading the generator, a cooling issue, or a faulty low-oil sensor that shuts the unit down even when oil level is fine.
Generator Fails Weekly Self-Test
Generac and Kohler standby generators run a weekly self-test. If it fails, the unit displays a fault code. Common faults: low battery, utility voltage error, RPM sensor failure, overcrank. We read the fault code and diagnose the cause.
Transfer Switch Not Switching
The generator starts but the house stays dark. The transfer switch is not transferring. This is a separate component from the generator itself and is repairable independently in most cases.
